Butter is Better

In my last post, I mentioned a study stating that America's butter consumption is at a 40-year high. Gone are the days of margarine as the "healthier" alternative. I also mentioned Straus Creamery in another post. This is a family creamery that provides dairy products made from cows fed on real grass and pasture (hence the term, "pastured"). Whenever possible, I buy butter from Straus. It contains Vitamin K2, essential for aspects of health we are just learning about. It makes sense, because most commercial cows are fed on CORN (a cheaper feed source) but cows are meant to eat wheat grass and alfalfa. Don't get me started on the amounts of antibiotics they have to give cows fed with corn. A healthier alternative is to buy from small family creameries. If you're in Northern California, one of our wonderful sources is Straus - for yogurt, milk, butter, and other dairy products. However, they are very expensive!! Another wonderful thing you can buy from Trader Joe's is actual pastured butter from Straus that is relabeled as Trader Joe's. Considerably cheaper!
