Most Soy is GMO

According to the Non GMO Project approximately 94% of the 2011 U.S. soy crop is genetically modified. I usually look at ingredients and avoid any product with soy in it, unless it specifically states it is "organic."

However, it's not just GMO issue. In general, soy products are not that good for you. They are very processed and hard to digest. Beneficial soy products are those that have been traditionally fermented - such as miso, shoyu, tofu, and tempeh. These products may still be GM products, however, so watch out. The best combination is to buy organically grown miso, tempeh, etc.

Soybeans, like nuts, contain phytates and enzyme inhibitors. These are essential to the survival of the bean or nut, but hard for us to digest. That's why fermentation is necessary.

What I really hate is that most "protein" bars or drinks contain soy (and/or whey) as the protein. If I see that I generally assume it is not organic, nor fermented, and I do not buy it.
